DAY 3 - DOING MORE OF WHAT YOU REALLY WANT
Welcome to lesson #3: DOING MORE OF WHAT YOU REALLY WANT
I hope that yesterday’s lesson gave you clarity about what is most important to you.
Now that you have ....
1)... established clarity about your current situation and what works and doesn’t work,
2)... summed up what matters most to you ...
you should be able to figure out what it is you truly want your life to look and feel like.
So now I want you to ask yourself this:
What do I really want?
How do I want my life to look and feel like from now on?
Write your response in your journal.
When you’ve done that, here’s a Mini Challenge for you:
The Mini Challenge is really about 2 things:
- Letting go!
- Embracing more!
Now, you might think that embracing more is quite contrary to living a simple life,
but this is not about embracing more things, - it’s about giving room for more of what you want:
More fun, more time with family and friends, more travelling, more quiet time on your own, -whatever matters most to you!
This may sound simple, but you might be surprised by how challenging this can be in real life.
Sadly, many of us are just not comfortable with making ourselves and our own needs a priority.
But I hope you'll do your best to try it anyway.
To help you with this challenge, here are some ideas:
On the matter of letting go:
Are there 3 things you can let go of today that will bring you closer to the life you want the most?
-Let go of something you are keeping out of guilt or obligation
-Give yourself permission to NOT do something on your to-do list
(this does not mean putting it off, it means letting go completely!)
-Walk away from a conversation that isn't adding value to your life (in person or online;
For example: walk away from a petty argument, delete an e-mail that doesn't require a
response, or resist the urge to comment on something)
-Delete a social media app from your phone or turn off notifications
-Say no to an invitation
-Select three items from your closet to donate, or give away some of your other stuff
-Challenge negative self-talk (if you catch yourself thinking "I could never", "I can't" or "I'm
not good enough", pause and think of at least three examples of the opposite)
-Walk away from something you consider buying that doesn't support your idea
of a simple life
-Unsubscribe from three e-mail lists
-Challenge a self-imposed deadline.
Is it really that important, or are you creating unnecessary stress for yourself?
These are just meant to help you. You can of course create your own challenge.
For example: think about the answers you wrote in your journal in Lesson 1 and 2.
Do they inspire you? What do you want to let go of today?
On the matter of embracing more of what you really want:
Are there 3 things you could do more of today to bring your life closer to being what you want the most?
-Make an investment in yourself (this could be big or small: book a massage, sign up
for a class, or skip cooking and go out for a meal instead)
-Spend 15 minutes outdoors, and think about the beauty of nature
-Learn something new (read a book or article, listen to a podcast, or ask a mentor a question)
-Find a way to enjoy the present moment (make yourself a cup of coffee or tea and drink it
without doing anything else, watch the sunset, listen to some music)
-Plan an adventure, big or small
-Take a nap or go to bed early
-Use your good stuff: burn your best candles, wear your most expensive perfume,
use your best china, and open your best bottle of wine!
-Give someone you love a hug
Remember, these are just ideas.
What's most important is that you do more of what matters most to you.
Recap of today’s lesson:
1) Write down what you really want your life to look and feel like,
2) Let go of what’s not important,
3) Do more of what you want.
That’s it for today!
Tomorrow you’ll learn about the French lifestyle and how it can be the perfect blueprint for your new and intentional life, - a life with less stress and feeling of overwhelm, and filled with joie de vivre!
