day 1 - where are you now?
Welcome to Lesson #1 in this FREE course, where you’ll learn how you can kick-start your new life, get rid of stress and overwhelm and start living with intention – the French way!
LESSON #1: WHERE ARE YOU NOW?
What you will learn in this lesson, is to get clarity about where you currently are in your life. I’m talking about how you feel and about your mindset.
It’s very important to get clear on this before you can make any changes.
As a former tutor of mine said:
“Living with intention has everything to do with getting rid of
everything that’s not essential, and deciding what’s important to you
and what isn’t.”
You probably want to do this course because you have a feeling of discontent with your life
the way it is. Something doesn’t feel right.
Maybe you’re overwhelmed by your long To Do list or busy schedule, or you just feel stuck in a rut. Whatever it is: you know deep inside that you’re not living your life the way you’re meant to live it.
So enough’s enough! You want a change!
My guess is that you’ve already tried to “fix” a lot of things in your life by taking a lot of action, like trying the next new diet, getting organized, swearing that you’d start managing your money in a better way, joining the gym ... But it’s always felt so hard, and after a while you’ve always ended up exactly where you were before.
So many people go through life believing that it’s all about “outer” circumstances. So they try to change their relationships, their body, their career and their financial situation – which is all good, really, - but they do it without knowing that they need to focus on their “inner” circumstances first, which means their thoughts and feelings.
My guess is that you have the same problem. That’s why it’s important that you take a look at that now.
Whatever it is that you want: You want it because you want to FEEL a certain way. So before we go any further, we have to start with the beginning, which is your current situation. Not just your “outer” situation or circumstances, but also how you feel.
This brings us to the first task that I have created for you.
I suggest that you set aside 20 minutes to do this, and that you sit in a place where you can be undisturbed.
Turn off social media and other distractions, and just focus on YOU. Grab a pen and paper (or preferably a journal that you can use for the whole course) so you can write down what comes to mind. This is important to get real clarity.
Here’s what I want you to write about in your journal today:
What is your current life situation really like?
Consider these areas of your life:
- Your physical environment, meaning your home and your things
- Your daily schedule / how you spend your time
- Your relationships
- How you manage your money
- Your mindset and beliefs
For each area, ask yourself these questions:
- Am I devoting the most resources (time, energy, money, etc.) to the things that matter most to me in this area? If not, what's out of balance?
- How do I feel about this part of my life? Are there any positive emotions (pride, joy, satisfaction), or negative emotions (guilt, fear, overwhelm)? Write down how you feel.
- What's working well, and why? Does anything seem to be out of alignment?
When you have gone through each area this way, you will have a fairly good sense of where you are living with intention and where you need to put in more work in order to get there.
Well, that was it for today!
I hope this inspires you to start thinking of some changes you want to make in your life.
